ANTLR v3 beta book available in PDF

The beta of my upcoming ANTLR v3 book is available in PDF form. As of this moment, it is missing a few chapters. Expect those chapters and a number of errors to be fixed in a week or so. The Beta book will be continuously updated until the final draft. I recommend purchasing the PDF/printed book version because you can then search the PDF if you want. Also, purchased the book from Pragmatic Programmers because I get a bigger cut than if you purchase through a third-party like Amazon. ;)

ANTLR v2 to v3 converter (version 0.1)

It converts two v2 ANTLR grammars from ANTLR v3 (antlr.g and antlr.print.g) syntactically, but I get lots of warnings...anyway, won't do trees in actions or anything, but it does some decent work for you. Does most of the grunt work I'd say.

ANTLRWorks with huge improvements available (Tree construction and tree parsing debugging, for example). ANTLR 3.0ea10 is there to support the release.

Productive trip / lecture at U of Quebec

My trip to give a lecture at UQAM was a great success. Had excellent conversations with SableCC developer Etienne Gagnon. We have very similar goals: tools for the commercial programmer. :) Montreal was cold but sunny. (friendly advice: don't fly through chicago unless you like to circle airports). ;)

Thoughts on source-to-source workhop at oopsla 2004

Just writing up notes from the workshop. Overall some really smart people, but we view the world very differently. I focus on making programmers productive by giving them pieces to fit into their apps whereas the rewrite engines seem to be for converting legacy code and doing other "one off" translations.

USFJProf is a Java code profiling tool that instruments your application (via a Java translator) with profiling code rather than using the usual statistical method ("wake up occasionally and figure out where the program is"). The profiler uses the native system clock rather than System.currentTimeInMills() on both Linux and Win32 platforms.

TML is a wiki-inspired markup language that I use to build all of my course notes and my "blogs" etc... Pretty damn cool and has a plug-in architecture so you can extend easily.

I just added RSS (version 0.91) to the site for entity types: article, grammar, share, showcase, and testimonial. My blogs do not have an RSS feed yet as they are currently just flat files.

StringTemplate is the engine pushing out dynamic pages on all of my web sites. Templates are interpreted by an ANTLR tree parser. :)

I make copious notes when building software; I think of it as keeping a lab notebook like chemists do. Users on the antlr-interest list wanted to see the ravings of a lunatic so I have posted my note files as a low-tech BLOG.

This library embodies the core of what I learned building jGuru. This antlr.org website uses the library. Source for antlr.org and peerscope.com are included. The mighty groovy StringTemplate "language" is included, but will be separately available here at antlr.org. Naturally, the PageForge makes heavy use of ANTLR.
